The University of Oregon will host the Prefontaine Classic this weekend for the 2023 Wanda Diamond League Final. The original meet was called the Hayward Restoration Meet and was used as a fundraiser to renovate the West Grandstands beginning in 1973. On May 30, 1975, the world lost Prefontaine and the meet was renamed in his honor. Since its inception, the meet has been a regular stop on the global track and field calendar and regularly brings the world's best athletes to Hayward Field. Historically, the meet has delivered some of the most iconic performances and with the track being one of the best in the world, it is unlikely that those performances will stop anytime soon.
